Coach: Henry R. Shoemaker

Goals: The goal of this team is to develop youth athletes’ passion for running and improve run fundamentals through fun filled activities. Athletes should be interested in developing their fitness and skills. Approach: S.E.T. focusses on creating a safe, fun environment where athletes are encouraged to learn and grow. We prioritize team activities and fundamentals over training volume, especially below high school age. Practice: There are no practice minimums. We are a complimentary activity to other year-round sports. Tues. and Wed. practice itineraries will rotate so athletes get varied exposure to training and drills (e.g. Week 1: Tues. Hill Repeats, Wed. Sprint Intervals. Week 2: Tues. Sprint Intervals, Wed. Hill Repeats). Sundays will be a single “long run” focus for all athletes building to race day distances and Sunday cross country races. There are no Sunday group practices on race day. Most practices include group drills and fun activities like relays to keep athletes engaged. Weekly practice plans are shared in advance so athletes can practice at home when they cannot attend group training. Parent Volunteer Requirement: Minimum of one team race (if your athlete chooses to race). Season: Practices start Tuesday September 3 and run into November. Athletes will have an opportunity to continue preparing until the team Turkey Trot. Race Schedule: Sunday September 15 12:30PM-2:30PM Catonsville HS Sunday October 6 12:30PM-2:30PM Century HS (Sykesville) Sunday November 10 9:00AM Fun Run and 5K (TBD) Thursday November 28 8:30AM Downtown Columbia Turkey Trot Races are not mandatory. The first two races are through Bullseye running and you must confirm commitment and pay the non refundable $10 fee to S.E.T. seven days in advance. The November 10 race details are t.b.d., and the November 28 Turkey Trot registration is done separately through Rip It Events. Now Recruiting: We are looking for Certified Coaches and Parent Volunteers. We need both stationary chaperones on the practice course to ensure athletes stay on track and run group leaders to lead pace groups from K-12.
